Omaha Poker Game

Strategies New Poker Tourney Players Must Know

If you have yet to play or participate in a Poker tournament before, it is imperative that you become aware of the modifications that you will need to make from you usual cash game approach. When competing in tourneys, you need to keep these aspects of the game in mind at all times.

The most important is that you need to play it very tight early. Most of the time you will be against rookies like yourself who will be eager to get into the action. Do not get involved, as you will need those chips later on. Only when you possess premium holdings should you consider making a move.

Another thing that you will have to consider when you are playing in a Poker tourney is to always keep it simple. Never go for any fancy plays like semi bluffs or worse, slow playing. The bottom line is that if you do not have good hands, fold them.

If you are holding something decent but the button makes a raise, fold it. This is not something that you usually do when you are playing Poker online, but tourneys are very different. Chips here are your lifeline.

A good Poker tournament player also knows how to play the blinds. You should of course, not be too over protective of them, but if they are constantly being stolen, then make a few steals of your own, especially when in the middle stages of the tournament.

You should also be aware of how many chips you have, and where you stand, stacks wise, compared with the others. This will determine to a large extent how your strategies and tactics will be played out.

You simply cannot afford to get caught up in a particular hand and lose track of how much you have in your Poker stack. You must also be aware of how much will be left of your chips if you make a bet in this pot. This is an aspect of the game that most players lose focus on when playing.

Finally, you should ask yourself if you are playing in a Poker tourney simply because you want to be in the money, or to win it all. This is very important. If you want to win it all, then you need to invest a lot of time and effort into it, but by persevering, it will pay off in the end.
